Super Bowl Chaos

Angela's Posts, Events, Recipes, TestimonialsCole ImperiComment

I remember when Super Bowls for me meant enjoying a beer with my husband/friends, making a variety of yummy appetizers and eagerly awaiting the half time show...last night I did watch the Super Bowl but I was also making homemade play dough for my son's preschool, eating a Digiorno pizza and dvr'ing the half time show to watch after wrestling my toddler to bed! Life sure has changed but I love the crazy chaos. I am sharing the play dough recipe I used with you all to make for your kiddos. This was SUPER easy and although I was hesitant at first because I just didn't see the play dough forming...after about 7-9 minutes on low heat it really did come together and my son and I enjoyed making a variety of colors.

If you were lucky enough to host a party with your friends here was a fantastic food idea that I shared on my Facebook page earlier last week. I love this because it is perfect for any fall/winter party and very easy to throw together, it even includes some great printable labels! Courtesy of: Celebrations at Home Blog

Off to the Races...

well not really, but we are having a derby party at the house! Every year the Kentucky Derby is a big time of year in the Jolley house...growing up in Kentucky and around horses his whole life it may be my husband's favorite day. Since we cannot go this year we are going to throw a simple party at our house. I say simple because I am going to try really hard not to go overboard, I tend to do that a lot! :) We have decided to just cater in Eli's Bbq (which is the best bbq in the city, our opinon!) the spirit of keeping it simple! But we are making an array of yummy desserts and having mint juleps. Even though we are not cooking the dinner portion I did find some very festive food recipes that I want to share as well as the desserts that we will be attempting to make.

Mini Hot Browns- Courtesy of Celebrate Magazine

  1. 24 (2-inch) round slices white bread
  2. 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  3. 1 (10-ounce) package prepared Welsh rarebit sauce
  4. 1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
  5. 6 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
  6. 1⁄4 pound thick-cut smoked deli turkey, cut into bite-size pieces
  7. 24 slices Roma tomatoes
  8. 1⁄4 cup loosely packed chopped parsley
  9. 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  1. Preheat oven to 400°. Brush both sides of bread rounds with melted butter. Place on a baking sheet. Bake for 4 to 6 minutes, or until lightly golden.
  2. Microwave Welsh rarebit sauce ac- cording to package directions. Stir in Parmesan cheese. Microwave for 1 minute longer, stirring well to blend.
  3. Spoon cheese sauce on top of toasted bread rounds. Sprinkle with bacon. Layer 2 pieces turkey and 1 slice tomato. Sprinkle with parsley and paprika. Serve immediately.

Kentucky Derby Sweet Potatoes- courtesy of Knead to Cook

3 enormous sweet potatoes (or you can use 5-6 large sweet potatoes), peeled and cut into bite-sized pieces 1 c of light brown sugar 1/2 c of butter 3/4 c of bourbon (I used Jim Bean) 1 1/2 tsp of ground cinnamon 1 tsp of vanilla extract 1/2 tsp of nutmeg, ground

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Place all of the peeled, chopped sweet potatoes in a glass 13×9 pan.  In a sauce pan over medium heat, add all of the other ingredients and bring to a boil.  Whisk the ingredients as they cook.  Once boiling, pour the liquid mixture over top of the potatoes.  Bake for 50 minutes or unit the potatoes are fork tender.

In the spirit of things I also feel that I must add in a mint julep recipe!

Outside of mint juleps you can purchase 14 hands wine at your local grocery store, this is perfect because the labels have horses on it already. If you want to really "wow" your guests you can freeze roses in ice cubes and use this to chill your wine/champagne in a cute bucket.

Lastly, we are having everyone in attendance pick a horse at random out of a hat (derby hat, of course) and the winner will get a prize like the below photo...sorry to spoil the prize for those attending! I am in love with this and think that if I were to have gotten married in Kentucky I would have had these as the hotel welcome gifts. Oh wait, I did get married in Kentucky...but I wasn't as crafty then and there was no pinterest! :)

Take me out to the ball game, Take me out with the crowd; buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack, I don't care if I never get back. Let me root, root, root for the home team, If they don't win, it's a shame. For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out, At the old ball game.

What a perfect day for all of today's festivities here in is going to be sunny and near 70! Which is great because besides the game itself there are so many outside activities for everyone to participate in with friends and family of all ages. My favorite is to attend the Findlay Market parade then pop into a few restaurants to grab a quick beer and a bite to eat. Now with the banks and the build up of OTR there are so many great restaurants to choose from.

Here are some new things happening at the ball park this year:

  • Bacon Challenge at Machine Room - 1 pound bacon sandwich.  Eat 3 in an inning and they're free + a tshirt
  • Beer bar - An 85-foot-long new addition has 60 taps and will feature a dozen local brews in addition to some national and regional brands. The bar is located between sections 117 and 118 on the third base concourse.
  • Taste of Belgium waffles- The menu at GABP includes a plain waffle ($5), waffle with chocolate and whipped cream or strawberries and cream (both $7), their signature waffle and chicken ($10), and Belgian frites ($7)
  • Goetta burgers- Goetta from the fantastic, Queen City Sausage
  • Sushi rolls- Available at the UDF Markets, will be made fresh at the ballpark.

Here is a photo of the new beer bar!

Did you know that Dulce Designs is a preferred vendor for the Cincinnati Reds...meaning if you are having an event at the ballpark we at Dulce can design and create a custom candy/dessert buffet just for you!! Contact us today for more information!

I cannot believe it has been so long since I last posted! Things have been very busy for us this Fall and into the holiday season. We had the honor of helping Gigi's cupcakes of Kenwood decorate a booth for the Holiday Market Show at the Duke Convention Center a few weeks ago. It was such a fun display to design full of bright holiday colors...the adorable and ever so yummy cupcakes went perfect with the design and the show was a huge success for them!

We also had a booth at the Afterhours Bridal Show put on by A Bride's Mafia at Music Hall. With it being to close to Christmas we decided to do a holiday themed table and again displayed some of Gigi's holiday mini cupcakes along with flavored popcorn selections and an assortment of red and green candies. The show was a huge hit with over 360 bride's coming through.

We are in the works for some VERY exciting things coming up in the new year...please stay tuned for more information and possibly even a fantastic giveaway!

Thank you to all of our clients for an amazing year and we wish you all the happiest of holiday seasons!

Cincinnati Babyguide Launch Party

Cincinnati Babyguide Launch Party

We recently had the privilege of working with The Cincinnati Babyguide doing a candy/dessert buffet for the launch of their new magazine. The event was hosted at the fabulous Essenza Studio in Milford. They also were so kind to photograph my display, see photos below. It was a fabulous turnout and a great networking opportunity to meet some great vendors. For this particular display I decided to do candies in colors to match the Cincinnati Babyguide logo: brown, pink and white. Some of the candies included: salt water taffy, chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate covered raisins and pink grapefruit chews. We at Dulce Designs also made custom cookies for the event and the fabulous macaroons were provided courtesy of Bonbonerie. I had a great time working with Kristen at Poeme on the labels, she really made my vision come to life and was so easy to work with. For the centerpiece we made a tree with hanging rock candies, pink pacifiers and crystals...this is my favorite part of the table. Thank you to Darris at the Babyguide for asking us to do your dessert display, we look forward to working with you again in the future!

Newspaper Themed Baby Shower

Angela's Posts, EventsCole ImperiComment

I was beyond thrilled and excited to plan a baby shower for my cousin, Sarah. They are expecting a baby girl in less than 2 weeks!! Growing up my cousin and I have always been more like sisters. I am now so happy that our babies will be so close in age so they can grow up together creating memories just like we have. For the baby shower I really wanted to do something different and outside the box. So, after looking up ideas and inspirations online and pinterest I decided on a Newspaper themed party. The decor would be all black and white with soft baby pink as the accent color. I brought my idea to Kristen at Poeme (who is amazing!) and she made the invitations and all paper goods come to life...once that was designed and decided it was much easier to plan the rest of the decor. I always find it much easier to first have a theme and to go from there when planning a party. Below are some photos of the party and more party we just have to wait for sweet Baby K to arrive!! :)

First I have to start with the pink and white colorized dessert table! The cake pops were amazing and from Cupcake Crazy, labels by Poeme and the dessert buffet was provided by Dulce Designs.

Dulce Designs

I am in love with the invitations and Mad Libs that Poeme did for us, I sent in the wording and party theme and they created all the paperwork to coordinate!

Party Invitations

One of my favorite things to have at a party is a photo booth! It is a fun way to get everyone together and to also tie in the party theme with the cute props that can be customized to match the event. The backdrop and banner was created from Wineandvineboutique, one of my favorite etsy shops! I loved the girly photo booth props, perfect for a girl baby shower.

Sarah's #1 pregnancy craving during her whole pregnancy has been root beer floats, so I thought it would be cute to have these as the take home favors for all the guests. I was really pleased with the outcome!I especially love the tags created by Poeme that say, "just add ice cream"!!

Party Favors- Dulce Designs

We also had a DIY headband station so that Baby K would have a variety of  headbands to wear! These were ordered by the very talented LB Boutique by Lori Baskin...this is such a great add on for a baby shower! Lori is so easy to work with and even creates all the signage and direction in colors to match your event.

Headband station

Lastly, I have to include a photo of the glowing momma-to-be, she is seriously the cutest pregnant lady ever!!! Pillow courtesy of Vineandwineboutique, these make great personalized gifts!

Dulce Designs Candy Buffet

We were so excited to design a Tiffany and Co. inspired candy/dessert buffet for a baby shower this past month. Our client was so fun to work with and really wanted to go all out with the theme, which of course I love! The colors for the event were Tiffany blue, white and silver. The candies that we decided on to match these colors were: mini cotton candy bags, gummy bears, gumballs, salt water taffy, lollipops, rock candy, white chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate balls, Hershey kisses and airheads. We decided to add Tiffany colored macaroons  courtesy of Sweet Petit Desserts, we had yummy custom cookies made from our in house cookie designer that were in the shape of onesies and baby carriages, fabulous cake pops were provided from Cupcake Crazy in the flavors of Oreo, vanilla and white chocolate cherry almond!  The labels were designed by Meghan with Design the Date and were in the shape of ADORABLE onesies,

The display was a total hit at the event and we were more than pleased with the outcome!

The March of Dimes really hits home for the Foulk’s, after being on strict bed rest and hospitalized for nearly 3 months Danielle gave birth to two miracles who today are beautiful  and very healthy almost 1 year olds. The Foulk twins are an inspiration to the team and each donation made helps to fund the March of Dimes research which could save a baby’s life just like these two blessings.

Here is a bit more information directly from the website for March of Dimes:

When you walk in March for Babies, you give hope to the more than half a million babies born too soon each year. The money you raise supports programs in your community that help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies. And it funds research to find answers to the problems that threaten our babies. We've been walking since 1970 and have raised an incredible $2 billion to benefit all babies.

Please consider donating to this wonderful cause and support the Foulk Fighters team on their mission to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. I know that emerald green is the color of the year and a lot of people choose bold/bright colors for events these days...but there is just something so subtly sweet about a soft pink! I love it paired with gold and am really wanting to pair the color combo together. The candy options are so yummy and look very elegant when put in apothecary jars. So...If you are in the Cincinnati area and are thinking about doing a soft pink color for a dessert or candy buffet, contact us for 10% off. Good now through March 2013.

National Popcorn Day

is this Saturday January 19th, who knew this day existed?! I had no clue and it just so happens we have booked our very first ALL popcorn buffet on this very fun is that?! I found this below information courtesy of, popcorn bar

National Popcorn Day

It’s National Popcorn Day! Americans eat about 16 billion quarts of popcorn each year (about 51 quarts per person), which makes it one of the most popular snacks in the country. It is also one of the oldest.

Popcorn has been around for centuries. It is one of six main varieties of corn. (The others are pod, sweet, flour, dent, and flint.) Popcorn originated in Mexico, but eventually made its way north. In 1948, archaeologists in the state of New Mexico discovered ancient popcorn ears that were at least 5,600 years old! The Native Americans (in both North and South America) popped their corn by throwing it on hot stones over a fire.

Today, we rely heavily on microwaveable popcorn, which was introduced in the 1980s. To celebrate National Popcorn Day, make your favorite kind of popcorn and enjoy it while watching a movie with your friends!

We are so excited to be doing a popcorn buffet for such a beautiful couple this weekend. They chose 8 popcorn flavors which include: Salt and Vinegar, Cheddar, Buffalo Ranch, Caramel, Peanut Butter, Butter, Chocolate and Banana Split. I cannot wait to post more photos after the event. We would love to help you with a popcorn buffet for your next event, contact us today for more information!

Emerald Green

They recently just announced the Pantone color of the year for 2013 and it is emerald green! Color of the year

To be honest I am not usually a green person but I love this rich, deep shade of green. One of my favorite colored candy buffets to do is one with green just photographs so well and there are great flavor options. Emeralds occur in hues ranging from yellow-green to blue-green, with the primary hue necessarily being green. Yellow and blue are the normal secondary hues found in emeralds. That could be why  such a wonderful color combo for a candy/dessert buffet is green and blue. A couple of seasons ago we did this exact combo and the results were beautiful and yummy!!

Cincinnati Candy Buffet

This past Wednesday was the fabulous Afterhours bridal show at Music Hall in Cincinnati. The turnout was great and I was so very pleased with our display. We met alot of great brides and were able to even meet some new vendors. The show was a total success. I decided to step away from our traditional candy buffet display this show and feature our s'mores buffets, which are perfect for fall/winter weddings or for a more rustic theme. My favorite part of the display besides the centerpiece was the backdrop. I think it really adds to the display and is a great way to incorporate your colors into the buffet.  The backdrop was such a hit at the bridal show that we have decided to start selling them separately or they can be added to a candy buffet package. In addition to the s'mores buffet we were lucky to have Taren with Sweet Petite Desserts contribute some of her yummy chocolate cupcakes and dipped pretzels. Meghan with Design the Date made all of our labels and paper goods. Lastly, we added our iced sugar cookies to the display in the shape of wedding gowns and diamond rings. We are now able to do cookies for any event and the detail on these is nothing short of amazing not to mention they taste wonderful.

We are so excited to be able to offer all of these great new items to our customers and their dessert displays. So contact us today to order your s'mores buffet, candy, cookie or backdrop for your next event!!
