I have always loved to wrap gifts, so when I saw these gift tags I was super excited and made sure to buy wrapping paper to match. Click on the below picture to print these great gift tag labels. So many different options to choose from!

How cute is this hot cocoa bar? I am hosting my annual cookie exchange this coming week and am going to be doing something very similar to this and making sure to use these labels. Click on the below photo to be taken to the printable links. Happy Hosting!!

This whole month we are dedicating our blog, Facebook posts and twitter to DIY projects for the holiday season! These projects will be all holiday or gift related  and will come in the form of recipes, home decor, party printables etc... I have found so many great things to share with you all that could potentially cut your buying and spending in half for the holiday season, how great is that?!

These are seriously some great ideas and almost all of them are super easy to do. I will also be trying some of them along with you all and I cannot wait to start crafting and try some of these fabulous DIY tips.

So to start the month off, I found this super cute FREE printable (courtesy of akadesign.ca) so all you have to do is print from your home computer and add a frame. This would go great as additional holiday decor for your house, as a hostess gift or a gift for a friend or that hard to buy family member. I printed this off at home and am very impressed with the quality of it. It has that chalkboard vintage look that is so popular right now!

Just click on the image to be taken to the printable once there click on the image to get to the PDF, then right click to save and then print on a piece of quality linen white paper (I used just regular computer paper that I already had and it turned out perfectly). It should be about 8×10, if you trim the edges.

Make sure to check our Facebook page and twitter for more daily DIY projects!

Coconut-Chocolate Pecan Pie

Angela's Posts, Featured, Recipes, Testimonials, UncategorizedCole ImperiComment

So every year for Thanksgiving I am responsible for the desserts, big surprise there!! The funny thing is I am not a baker unless you count things from a box or no bake pudding pies. So I usually always order the desserts from a great local bakery, this year we had yummy bite sized desserts from Sweet Petite Desserts and they were nothing short of amazing. In addition to these desserts I found a recipe in my Family circle magazine that I just had to try and it looked easy enough for me not to mess up.  It was for coconut-chocolate pecan pie, which are all of my dad's and husband's favorite ingredients. This was my very first pie, I do not count the pudding pies because there is no baking involved...but they are equally as awesome, so much so that I'll have to do another whole blog post on just those!! Anyway, the pie turned out PERFECT and I was so proud of myself...although I do feel bad for my family because they will be getting this for every holiday during the next year. Here is the recipe that I am sure you all will love, courtesy of familycircle.com!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sweetened flake coconut, plus more for garnish (optional)
  • 1 refrigerated pie crust (from a 15.5-oz pkg)
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups pecan halves
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
  • Whipped cream (optional)

Directions

1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Spread coconut onto a baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes until lightly toasted. Cool.

2. Meanwhile, coat a 9-inch deep-dish pie plate with nonstick cooking spray. Roll pie crust slightly and fit into prepared dish, fluting edge.

3. In a bowl, whisk corn syrup, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Stir in pecans. Spread coconut into pie crust; top with chocolate chips. Carefully pour pecan mixture into crust.

4. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour, covering crust with foil if browning too quickly. Cool at least 2 hours, then refrigerate until serving. Garnish with whipped cream and toasted coconut, if desired.

Cincinnati S'more and Candy Display

Cincinnati Candy Buffet

This past Wednesday was the fabulous Afterhours bridal show at Music Hall in Cincinnati. The turnout was great and I was so very pleased with our display. We met alot of great brides and were able to even meet some new vendors. The show was a total success. I decided to step away from our traditional candy buffet display this show and feature our s'mores buffets, which are perfect for fall/winter weddings or for a more rustic theme. My favorite part of the display besides the centerpiece was the backdrop. I think it really adds to the display and is a great way to incorporate your colors into the buffet.  The backdrop was such a hit at the bridal show that we have decided to start selling them separately or they can be added to a candy buffet package. In addition to the s'mores buffet we were lucky to have Taren with Sweet Petite Desserts contribute some of her yummy chocolate cupcakes and dipped pretzels. Meghan with Design the Date made all of our labels and paper goods. Lastly, we added our iced sugar cookies to the display in the shape of wedding gowns and diamond rings. We are now able to do cookies for any event and the detail on these is nothing short of amazing not to mention they taste wonderful.

We are so excited to be able to offer all of these great new items to our customers and their dessert displays. So contact us today to order your s'mores buffet, candy, cookie or backdrop for your next event!!

Michelle Wamboldt: Favor Box Bakery

With colder weather right around the corner I started to research autumn/fall dessert buffet ideas and came across some really fabulous stuff that I just had to share!! This is my absolute favorite time of the year, I just love everything about it: jeans with tall boots, sweaters, chili, football (even though I'm not a fan, my husband is and its great reading time for me), warm desserts, falling leaves...and I especially love the feeling that the holidays are right around the corner. So to also get you all in the spirit of all things Fall I am posting some fabulous dessert buffets I found, I hope you enjoy!!

A Sprinkle for Kennedy

Angela's Posts, Portfolio, UncategorizedCole ImperiComment

One of my best friends, Nicole, is only weeks or days away from delivering her second beautiful baby and this time it is a girl! Her first child is a ridiculously cute little boy named CJ and her second bundle of joy is going to be named Kennedy Nicole. I could not be more excited for her and her family as they prepare to welcome their new addition to the family. The minute I found out that she was having a girl I knew that I had to throw a shower for her filled with great desserts and everything pink! So our other dearest friend Jen and I decided to throw Nicole and baby Kennedy a "sprinkle" as this was her second child. The fact that the second baby shower for a momma after her first born is called a sprinkle only made our theme that much easier. We decided to have sprinkles on everything...and thus the dessert table planning began! As you all know I am not a baker but my Jen and her fabulous mother- in-law are so with their baking and my designing we were overflowing with ideas. Besides the dessert buffet filled with goodies we decided to have a "cravings corner" filled with food that Nicole has been craving during this pregnancy. The food included: McDonald's chicken nuggets with hot mustard (which is a must for Nicole), sushi, watermelon, spinach and strawberry salad, and mini big boy sandwiches. Instead of a game we opted to have everyone design and create their own headband for baby Kennedy and Nicole would pick her favorite of them all and the designer of that headband would win a prize. This left Nicole with over 15 extra headbands to add to Kennedy's already insane wardrobe! One of the last details we had for the sprinkle was to have everyone "leaf their thumbprint and name" on a framed printed picture of a tree to be hung in the nursery (I had this designed from etsy.com to match her nursery perfectly).

Jen and I were so happy to throw Nicole and baby such a successful baby sprinkle and we cannot wait to meet, what we know, is going to be a GORGEOUS baby Kennedy...just like her momma!

7 Favorite Summer Candies

Angela's Posts, Featured, UncategorizedCole ImperiComment

When I think of summer candies I think of my days at the pool when I was a kid and my mom giving me $5 to last the whole day...all of which was spent on candy to be eaten during the dreaded pool breaks! There are just those candies that make you think of the beach and sunny days. I do not associate chocolate with summer, to me that is more of a fall/winter kind of thing. For summer I think of chewy, sour, fruity candies and I know that these candies are available all year round but there is just something about warm weather that makes me crave certain candies. I think even alot of my brides do this because during the summer months some of the candies I have listed below are a favorite for them also. I personally think it is the bright fun colors they come in, the fruity flavors and the childhood memories it brings back, something about summer candy is just so FUN!! Okay, on to the list of 7 favorite summer candies chosen by me and in no particular order. Although, salt water taffy is my favorite... especially the orange and I like them slightly melted so they are super soft and somewhat sticking to the paper! Salt water taffy

Salt water taffy

Charm's blow pops

Fun-dip

Licorice ropes

Lemon heads

Fruit slices

Laffy Taffy

Wat are some of your favorite summer candies? Do any of these candies bring back a special summer memory for you?! Feel free to share :)

Summer Bash Ideas

Shape magazine 2011

So we are back from our trip to Chicago...a little more about this before I tell you about the creative summer bash ideas I found. As I mentioned we went to Chicago for my husband's 29th birthday to see the DMB caravan. This was an experience to say the least but I will admit that after the horrible train ride to get there and a broken sandal from the walk/hike to the main entrance, that I actually had a great time. After a few cocktails I even found myself swaying along to some of the songs. We celebrated my husband's birthday Saturday night with a great dinner at David Burke's Primehouse. The dessert was the best part...we ordered a cheesecake lollipop tree and it was just that, miniature cheesecakes on lollipop sticks that were in the shape of a tree. By far the cutest dessert I have ever seen and it was yummy too!! Dessert_LollipopTree Now to get to what the blog post is really about! While flipping through my Shape magazine last week I found this great article in the Women in Action section, written by Annie Lee. It is called Host an Unforgettable Summer Bash and she says:

Summer

  • Warm Evenings were made for casual get-togethers, but it's easy to fall into the same old "Come over for some burgers!" habit. Elevate your party and create a more memorable experience by choosing a theme. Here are three of my favorites
    • Stargazing Ask guests to bring binoculars, then print sky maps (go to wunderground.com and plug in your zip code). Serve space-inspired food, like Big Dipper guacamole and MoonPies, alongside traditional BBQ fare.
    • DIY Movie Theater Hang a white sheet on the side of your house and rent a projector. Then set up lounge chairs, blankets, and bowl of popcorn and play a warm-weather film like Grease.
    • Summer Olympics Assign guests to teams and have them compete in events like three-legged races. Prepare some Greek dishes in honor of the first games.

Note: This article was found in Shape's July 2011 issue, page 53.

Doughnut Buffets

Uncategorized, WeddingsCole Imperi2 Comments

I am really into unique buffet ideas for weddings right now. While researching some new things online the other day I came across some photos of different buffets that events are having. One of my favorites was having a doughnut/breakfast food buffet set up so that as guests leave your event they can grab a snack to enjoy then or even cuter...to eat for breakfast the following morning. The idea of a breakfast buffet is also appropriate for a morning /early afternoon reception or a bridesmaids brunch.  You can do an all doughnut buffet or you can do doughnuts but also add in some other breakfast favorites like bagels with different cream cheeses, muffins, cereal bars etc... There are just so many different edible favor options for all of your guests to enjoy!

Here are some super cute photos I found to help illustrate the idea

The first three photos are courtesy of marthastewart.com and the last is from Divine Order Photography.

Also, if you are reading this and are a future bride in the Cincinnati/NKY area I hope to see you this Thursday May 19th at The Element's Afterhours bridal show from 8-11pm!!

Let me properly introduce myself…

Angela's Posts, UncategorizedCole Imperi1 Comment

I just realized that I have been blogging for a few months time now and have not formerly introduced myself. So here is a little about me and a tid bit more info on what my blog is all about! My name is Angela Jolley and I am the owner of Dulce Designs. I am a 20 something (lets just keep it at that) college graduate with a degree in Psychology, which I believe I use everyday, and have a strong passion for design and business! I am married to my best friend Adam…after kissing a lot of toads I finally met my prince charming, only I didn’t see him as that for awhile because we were such good friends. Together we have two beagle doggies whom we adore and treat as children, very spoiled little girls they are! My friends mean the world to me and act as sisters, counselors, partners in crime, fashion consultants and so much more. My two closest girlfriends are Jen and Nicole…and I am sure I will share stories about them a lot, I think they are the best and are truly hilarious!

Besides my husband, puppies and best friends, chocolate and chick-lit are my favorite things ever! I use the word chocolate very loosely and mean it as sweets in general…chocolate can really be anything sweet and fabulous. Chick-lit is just that…chick literature, not to be confused with chicklet…which I also love and is candy related…I see where the confusion could happen.  Anyway, since I am mildly obsessed with both of these I am going to blog about them weekly…the blogs will be called Chocolate and Chick-lit, here I will discuss a new dessert or candy I am crushing on or just tried as well as a book I am reading at the time (currently I am reading through the smart chick-lit reading list from previous blog entry). My first Chocolate and Chick-lit blog will be coming this week!

I started Dulce Designs in 2009 after planning my own wedding, see about me on my website for more information about how I got into the candy business. Not only do I love candy and everything to do with candy buffets and desserts…but I love the business part of Dulce Designs: networking, meeting new people, marketing and my new found interest…blogging!

Some of my other fav things are the beach, a great pair of jeans, cardigans, diet coke, benefit make up, interior design, Xavier basketball, organization and Italian! I am not a fan of: exercising (although I am realizing it is a must), cold weather, laundry, high heels, scary movies, tomatoes and making my bed.

So now you know a little bit about the candy blogger for Dulce Designs! Remember to check back this week for my first Chocolate and Chick-lit entry!

Chick-lit Reading List

Angela's Posts, Testimonials, UncategorizedCole Imperi2 Comments
chic-lit

Another one of my great loves is reading! I love to settle in with a good book and read for hours on end. My favorite type of books are quick witted romantic comedies...I used to call them bubble gum pop love stories, until I found out the proper name for them, chick-lit. It all started with the recommendation that I read a Sophie Kinsella book, then after reading all of her books I moved onto Emily Giffin (my favorite thus far) and I was then stuck on all books chick-lit. I have dabbled with a few other authors like Lauren Weisberger and Candice Bushnell, but in my personal opinion while these books are good I do not LOVE these books as I do the other two authors.  I have since been looking for other similar authors to read and just yesterday I came across this article from TresSugar.com...see below:

Chick lit gets a bad rap, but we don't think it's a waste of a genre. Breezy and smart need not be mutually exclusive, so we asked you for your favorite chick-lit novels that are as intelligent as they are fun.

Here's 20 books to watch for when you want a read that's light but not empty.

  1. Can You Keep a Secretby Sophie Kinsella
  2. Something Borrowedby Emily Giffin
  3. The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger
  4. Smart Girls Like Meby Diane Vadino
  5. Sushi For Beginnersby Marian Keyes
  6. Twenties Girlby Sophie Kinsella
  7. My Best Friend's Girlby Dorothy Koomson
  8. Pink Slipby Rita Ciresi
  9. Trading Up by Candace Bushnell
  10. The Girl's Guide to Hunting and Fishing by Melissa Bank

Get the other 10 below.

  1. Lipstick Jungle by Candace Bushnell
  2. The Little Lady Agency by Hester Browne
  3. The Godmother by Carrie Adams
  4. Something Blueby Emily Giffin
  5. Last Chance Saloonby Marian Keyes
  6. The Lace Makers of Glenmara by Heather Barbieri
  7. My Heart May Be Broken, but My Hair Still Looks Great by Dixie Cash
  8. Sweet Dreams at the Goodnight Motelby Curtis Ann Matlock
  9. Four Blondes by Candace Bushnell
  10. The Pactby Jodi Picoult

So in between designing candy buffets for upcoming events I am going to attempt to read my way through this list, I will keep everyone updated with my thoughts after each one. Keep in mind I have already read all the Sophie Kinsella, Lauren Weisberger, Candice Bushnell and Emily Giffin books so I will not blog about those, but if you have any questions or comments about them I would love to chat about it.  Or if you have any other recommendations that are not on this list let me know.

Just last night I started reading Sushi for Beginners...so far it is a quick witted funny book that takes place in Ireland. I will keep you posted on my review!
