May Candy Buffets and Events

WeddingsCole ImperiComment

Last week we had a small photoshoot for our candy buffets to be featured on The Bride's Concierge (scheduled to launch May 19th). I really have some great events coming up and CANNOT WAIT to show off some of the great new props I purchased for this year. The candy buffets that really seem to be taking off are colorized candy buffets to match the wedding/event colors or theme. I love these candy buffets, they are so fun to design and are so visually appealing for any event! In the next coming weeks I will have many new photos to share with all of my blog readers as we have proms, weddings, birthday parties, bridal showers and bridal shows all in the month of May. I do love wedding season, so fun! See below for a few new photos and be on the lookout for even more to come in the near future.

I also hope to see all future brides at the upcoming Element's Aftherhours Bridal Show coming up May 19th from 8-11pm!

Anthropologie's Bridal Collection

Angela's Posts, Trends, WeddingsCole ImperiComment

Anthropologie is one of my very favorite stores. Whenever I am at any mall that has it I have to go in, even if I do not buy anything, I just love to look! They have the most amazing household items and their clothes/shoes are beautiful and very vintage. I am absolutly in love with the volcano candle that they sell there...I have them everywhere in home!! My favorite thing to check out is the sale and clearance section they have...that is the best time to get things because other than that some items can be a little pricey. So because of my love for this store it would only make sense for me to adore their new bridal line that launched this past is called BHLDN.

They have some truly unique items and is a perfect bridal collection for that vintage bride that likes things just a little different. They have a little bit of everything: wedding dresses, shoes, lingerie, bridesmaid dresses and alot more. I also found out that they are adding even more great items soon, cake toppers and favor items etc... Check out the website to see more about this great store. Also, be sure to check out the explore section at the top of the site. They have a tab called Nuptials of Yesteryear where they have found great old photos of weddings long is great to see what the styles were like then and how much they have changed today.

Here are a few of my favorite items from BHLDN:

Our Wedding Day

I know that candy is all the rage at weddings right now (thank goodness for me and my candy buffet company) but, cookie buffets are also a unique favor idea for any wedding/event! You can do a combination of the bride and groom's favorites to make it more personalized on the wedding day. Another great idea is to add assorted cookies to a candy buffet to make more of a dessert bar! We at Dulce Designs partner with many great local bakers and would love to design a dessert bar for your next event! Contact us today for  more details...!

Popcorn Buffet

popcorn bar

Everyone knows what a huge candy buffet fan I am and all...but I had to share this other great idea for a party/reception! A popcorn buffet full of wonderful great toppings, this is just so unique and fun. See below photos of a mouth watering popcorn buffet, kudos to Utterly Engaged for doing such a fabulous job! One great plus about a popcorn buffet is that it is so cheap and will definetly be something that your guests have not ever seen before....a sweet and savory treat for all!

While researching popcorn buffets I also came across this adorable sign that one bride had designed by etsy seller-Bohtieque Design. This would be cute as a table sign or as labels to go on the favor bags for a popcorn buffet!

Sweet Sayings

Angela's Posts, WeddingsCole ImperiComment

Candy buffets are a great way to make your wedding/event fun and unique! I think a great personal touch is to have a saying on your display that is framed with personalized information included. Here is a list of commonly used sayings on candy buffets:

1. Sweet Dreams 2. Love is Sweet! Enjoy a Treat! 3. Enjoy the Sugar Rush. 4. Love is Sweet! 5. Use the scoop, Use what you like. Leave some for others. Be polite. 6. Step right up to our Candy Buffet. Its a Sweet addition to a wonderful day! 7. Sweet Shoppe. [Insert wedding date] 8. Serving you a little treat, just to say we think you're sweet!

In addition to having a framed saying I recommend adding a few photographs to the display...maybe engagement photos blown up for a wedding or baby pictures for a birthday party! These are small touches that will really add alot of character to your event.

Lemon Cupcakes!

Recipes, WeddingsCole Imperi2 Comments

So today was a beautiful day here in Cincinnati...finally no rain and some warm weather! Something about this beautiful weather makes me crave lemon flavored desserts. Check out this ever so delicious recipe for Lemon Cupcakes courtesy of, you will not be disappointed!

  • 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks unsalted) butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 2 1/4 cups cake flour or all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon grated lemon zest
  • 3/4 cup cream cheese, softened
  • Confectioners' sugar for dusting (optional)

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray the muffin tin with cooking spray.

Combine the butter and 1 1/4 cups of the sugar in the large bowl and beat with the mixeron medium-high speed until fluffy. ADd the eggs and 3 tablespoons of the lemon juice and beat until well combined, scraping down the bowl once or twice as necessary. Mix in the flour, baking powder, slat, and 2 teaspoons of the lemon zest until just combined.

In the small bowl, mash together the cream cheese, the remaining 1/4 cup sugar, the remaining 1 tablespoon lemon juice, and the remaining 1 teaspoon lemon zest until combined.

Spoon about 3 tablespoons of the batter into each muffin cup. Place about 1 tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture on top of each portion of batter and cover the cheese with some of the remaining batter (the batter should reach three-quarters of the way to the top of each cup). Bake until golden, about 20 minutes. Let the cupcakes cool in the pan for 10 minutes before turning over onto the wire rack to cool completely. Use the strainer to sift the tops with confectioners' sugar before serving if desired.

Sweet Love Story!

WeddingsCole ImperiComment
february newsletter

We wanted to feature a beautiful couple on this fabulous Valentine's Day, Jeff and Brittany Thomas, that are full of love and sweet on candy. Here is their love story and how they used Dulce Designs to sweeten their event!

Jeff and I first met at a friend’s BBQ. Our mutual friend thought we were perfect for each other (he was right) invited each of us to the party (not telling us about it) with the purpose of setting us up. When Jeff first got there my friend spent the next few minutes talking him up, oh he's a great guy, athletic etc... Jeff then sat across from me with a bag of potato chips. I assumed they were for everyone but apparently he brought his own chips. I attempted to take a few and he proceeded to say, "hey what are you doing eating my chips?" I apologized and asked if I may have some, he gave me two...and the rest is history.

Jeff Proposed when we were in New York City for Christmas. We spent the day ice Skating at Rockefeller Center, CA ridge ride in Central Park, Dinner at my favorite NYC Restaurant Rosa Mexicana at Lincoln Center, a show on Broadway Phantom of the Opera. We then got back to our hotel and he was acting very strange cleaning things up moving other things around. I then went to the restroom and when I came back there was champagne and Jeff was standing by the window. When I went over to him he was shaking and really nervous but it wasn't until I hugged him that I realized what was happening, is heart felt like it was going to beat out of this chest. He then got down on one knee and asked me to marry.... and I answered yes before he could even say me!!!!

On our wedding day we wanted something we would never forget, we both have fun and creative personalities, we wanted it to be unique and fun. Jeff is an aquatic biologist so the Newport Aquarium seemed the perfect choice of venue. We both share a love of candy, when I first met Angela at a bridal show and saw the candy display I knew it was exactly what we needed for our unique wedding! We wanted the night to be something everyone would enjoy and be talking about for many years to come!

As a couple we would highly recommend Angela from Dulce Designs for candy buffet and centerpieces, Our Photographer Angela Sampson from Ron Wood Photography. My hairdresser Mary Strotman from Michael and Co Salon. The Aquarium as a venue working with Brent Baker was a breeze; she made everything such low stress! Funkys Catering was awesome everyone commented on how great the food was!

Our candy Buffet and centerpieces were such a huge hit, everyone commented on the unique Idea and how wonderful it looked! They loved that they could eat our centerpieces! We still have friends and family talking about how great of an Idea It was and we are still eating leftover candy, its great!!

My advice to other brides is to try not to stress; it all comes together in the end!

Unique Wedding Centerpieces

wine bottle centerpieces and table numbers

The big thing I notice about brides the more and more I work with them is how they all want their wedding to be unique and unlike any other wedding they have attended. They want a "wow" factor that will stay in their guests minds long after the wedding is over. So to achieve this look they are stepping out of the box and creating a fabulous non-traditional look. The second thing I am noticing is that more couples are paying for their own weddings today.  So they want to achieve this unique wedding but without breaking the bank...makes perfect sense to me! One large wedding expense is usually flowers, so to cut back many brides are designing their own centerpieces to something that is just as beautiful but saves money. I have researched this and found some great ideas for those brides that are interested in cheaper DIY centerpiece options...see below for some photos:

These are just a few photos that I found when I googled unique centerpieces...alot of them are courtesy of

Any centerpiece that the guests can eat are great conversation starters...I especially like the cupcake ones above! Also, remember that Dulce Designs now creates candy centerpieces for weddings or us today for more information!

Night at the Movies!

Case Studies, Residential, Tips and Tricks, WeddingsCole ImperiComment

So this is another Cincinnati related post, but I had to share the wonderful experience I had at the Kenwood Theatre this past Saturday night! From the minute we walked in I knew this was going to be a different movie experience. It was super crowded, but then again it was a Saturday night...lots of teenagers on dates! Everything was very clean and the staff kept things running smoothly. After standing in line for only seconds to purchase our tickets we then went to the concession stand to load up on movie treats! I was well prepared to order my usual sour patch kids and a diet coke when I saw the dessert area they had. I was like a kid in a candy store...there were so many different options, all courtesy of Frieda's Desserts in Maderia. From mini carrot cakes to iced sugar cookies and to top it all off you can order wine and beer...I was SOLD! I knew right at that second that I would never visit another movie theater in the Cincinnati area. They also have sushi from Ember's, maccroons, cappuchino's and then the regular candy/snack options that every movie theater has. This theater is top notch and I am so glad to have it so close to my house so I can visit it more often! Check out their website for more information and to see how you can have a birthday party there (great idea for the kiddos) or look up Tueaday night discounted prices!

Lastly, if you are a marketing nerd like I am you will appreciate the way they display the snacks at the concession stand...check out the menu for the fabulously unique way they showcase their popcorn and soda sizing options.  This is not your typical theater, go soon and check it out!! Oh and the movie we saw, No Strings Attached, was super cute as well. :)

his and hers

In most cases (but not all) alot of the wedding planning is done by the her style really comes out in the event. With a His and Hers candy buffet it is a great way to show a little style and personality of both the bride and groom.

There are many themes to choose from when deciding how to decorate your candy buffet: colorized, winter wonderland, beach/tropical, simple and new  popular trend is a His and Hers! I am seeing this more and more with the wedding I have done. This is a great way to combine both the brides and grooms favorite candies into one display. Add a few fun photos or engagement shots with personalized candy bags and VIOLA, a perfect His and Hers candy buffet that all your guests will enjoy.

You can add labels to each candy jar saying his or hers at the top depending on who's favorite it is, the name of the candy and a memory/reason for the candy being their favorite. This really lets your guests feel connected to you on your special day as they are enjoying their sweet treat!

Dulce Designs would be happy to work with you on creating your special His and Hers candy buffet, contact us for more information/questions.
